The Pirates’ winning ways continued in Week 6 against local rivals, the Nepean Ducks. The score lines perhaps flattered the Pirates and credit must be given to the Ducks for their spirit and determination.

The Pirates’ Colts started well and had a particularly good First Half. The Second Half was more of an arm-wrestle but the Pirates still ran out winners by 38-6.

The older counterparts didn’t have it all their own way in the Division 1 game either. Despite holding a 31-14 lead at the halftime break, it was more of a struggle later in the game with the scoring by both teams quite limited. The Pirates stumbled at times but still came away with the win by 44-14.

The season is starting to get tougher and both teams will have to be at their best as they head towards Playoff time.

North Western Predators

The Pirates extended their winning streaks in both the Colts and Division 1 competitions with wins over teams from the Northwestern club in Week 5.

The Colts got proceedings underway with a 24-0 shutout win over the Northwestern Giants. The under strength Colts team took an early lead and were never headed as they maintained their spot at the top of the Colts’ standings.

Not to be outdone, the Pirates’ Division 1 team recorded a 62-24 win over the Northwestern Predators to stay near the top of their own standings.

To this point of the season the Pirates are the only club in GNSW that has not tasted defeat in 2016 which in itself is an impressive statistic!

While the Pirate Colts were enjoying a week off the Pirates’ Division 1 team continued on their winning ways with a hard fought win over the Newcastle Cobras in Newcastle in week 4 of the GNSW competition. The 54-13 score line does not give a true indication of the physical nature of the game though and the Pirates were made to work hard for their win from start to finish.

The Pirates overcame a slow start and went on to hold a commanding lead at halftime. But the second half was somewhat indifferent and that’s an issue that the Pirates will need to work on in the weeks ahead.

Make no mistake, the road trip to play Newcastle in the Hunter will become a big challenge in the very near future as the Cobras are on the rise.

In week 5 action the Pirates take on the Northwestern Predators.

The Pirates kept up their winning streaks with big wins over the Northern Sydney Rebels in Week 3 of the 2016 season.

The Pirates Colts had a big win against an undermanned but courageous Rebels team by 48-0. The win keeps the Pirates at the top of the Colts’ Standings

The Pirates Division 1 team followed that up with a mixed display but still managed a 46-6 win over their northern opponents.

Week 4 games see the Pirates Division 1 team take on the Newcastle Cobras while the Colts have a Bye.

The Pirates got their 2016 campaigns underway in impressive style in Week 2 of the season. With Week 1 games being cancelled due to wet weather the games against Wollongong would be the Pirates’ first serious hit out and the first real chance to see how the teams had come together in the pre-season.

The Pirates Colts got the day off to a great start with a 32-12 win over the Wollongong Brumbies. The Pirates, fielding a team largely made up of rookies, started well and were never headed on the day.

The Pirates Division 1 team followed that up with an impressive 56-8 win over the Wollongong Mustangs. The Pirates scored from their first play from scrimmage and kept up the pressure throughout the game to record their win.

It was a great start by both teams but there is a long season ahead and still a lot of improvements to make.

Week 3 games see the Pirates take on the Northern Sydney Rebels.

The Pirates’ Division 1 team came agonisingly close in the 2015 Waratah Bowl before falling to perennial Champions, the Sydney University Lions by 36-18.

The final score is not a true indication of how close the game was as the Pirates were trailing by 14-12 at halftime, then leading for much of the 3rd Quarter, before the Lions were able to put on some quick points to claim the title.

Injuries certainly played their part during the game as a number of Pirate players left the game and were unable to return and this had an impact on what the Pirates were able to do. But they never surrendered and stretched the Lions until the final whistle.

North Western Predators

The West Sydney Pirates Division 1 team tasted Playoff success against the Northwestern Predators, but it was not without its drama.

The Pirates outlasted a spirited Predators team to win by 47-41 and move on to the 2015 Championship game.

The game was a topsy-turvy affair with the lead changing hands multiple times but it was the Pirates who managed to have the final say and hang on for a nail-biting win.

The 2015 Waratah Bowl awaits!

Wollongong Mustangs

The Pirates took on Wollongong in Week 11 of the 2015 season and it was two wins but for very different reasons.

The Pirates Colts won on a forfeit when the Wollongong Brumbies were unable to field a team.

The Pirates Division 1 team defeated a gutsy Wollongong Mustangs team by 60-18. The score is not a true reflection of the game though as the Pirates only showed flashes of what they are capable of achieving.

It was overcast but mainly dry conditions for the Week 9 clash between the Pirates and the Northern Sydney Rebels. The Pirates were missing a large number of players due to injury and knew that they would be in for a tough game.

The Rebels opened the game with the clear intent of running the ball to control the clock and keep the ball out of the Pirates’ possession, and in the First Half it certainly worked with both teams locked at 0-0 at the halftime break.

The momentum certainly shifted in the Second Half though due to some adjustments at the break and the increased tempo and energy displayed by the Pirates.

The final score saw the Pirates run away winners by 36-6.

The Pirates now have a Bye week which has come at the right time. The team is hurting and the roster is dwindling, so the break will allow the team to recharge the batteries and get a little healthier in the lead up to the Playoffs.

North Western Predators

It was a mixed day for the West Sydney Pirates in Week 8 of the GNSW 2015 competition games played at the Pennant Hills Hockey Centre.

The Pirates’ Colts started the day and fought hard throughout but fell to the North Western Panthers by a score of 10-6.

In the final game of the day the Pirates’ Division 1 team faced an equally tough challenge against a very determined North Western Predators team.

The Predators got on top early and had much better field position and momentum in the first half, but the Pirates got on track in the second half and ran out winners by 28-12.
