The 2005 Division 1 Season marked the 20th Anniversary of Pirate Football. The Club, originally known as the Liverpool Pirates, began playing in the (N.S.W.G.F.L.) New South Wales Gridiron Football Leagues 1986 season. In the ensuing years the Pirates (who changed their name to the West Sydney Pirates in 1994) grew to become a consistent force in the local League.
